oooo a little more rain!
Checking our huge vegetable patch at the side of our house... all 8 rows of it! well self sufficiency has to start somewhere!
Part of Lils homework for the holidays was to write a wish, and this is Lily's. (Olympic Gold!! that's my girl set your sights high!!)
And when the sunshine finally did show his face we went for a muddy tea time walk! Hopefully there will be more sun next week and less rain... but this is England... and the north at that so I'm not holding my breath!

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is one of my all time favourite childhood books. As a kid I used to pour over the illustrations and lap up the surreal dream like story. I collect Alice in Wonderland books and love the vintage illustrations, but it's been difficult to get Lil, Sonny & Sky to share this passion as the Victorian language and black and white illustrations don't seem to connect with young ears and eyes... But this basic picture book version is a great introduction to the fantastic story. I'll do future blogs on the books I've got but I think this one for little ones is a great starting point.
It's published by Usborne and illustrated by Mauro Evangelista with sensitive pencil illustrations.
A massive contrast to how the fab Tim Burton will tell this amazing story! We can't wait to see it, but wait we must as it's not out till March 2010.
Mia Wasikowska as Alice
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter
Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen
Matt Lucas is Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee and Alan Rickman ( who in my opinion is one of the best actors in the world!!) is the Caterpillar!
See the fantastic trailer here... and just to add the totally amazing where the wild things is out in October! A children's book addict's dream!

This is my progress so far with my little parcel of Umbrella trimmings for the Umbrella prints competition which I blogged about at the beginning of the month. Lovely thoughts, above, was the first piece I created on the bottom of Skyla's jeans!
I love sewing was the second piece.
And Hope is the third piece I've created, I've still got some fabric left and have plans for my forth and fifth piece, watch this space!

I can't believe the first week of the holidays is nearly over! On Thursday we visited Great Grandma Ev, We had a great time! snakes & ladders, drawing, building, cornbeef hash, jelly and ice cream, stories and laughs! She may be 85, but she can make a mean bowl of cornbeef hash and whip 'yer at snakes and ladders no problem!
Thanks for a great day Gran!

This is a favourite with all the 'Lil Sonny Sky book review panel, as there is sooo much beautiful detail in the illustrations, that every time you read this book you notice something new that you'd never seen before. Because of this, it's the favourite 'poorly' book in our house, whenever Lil, sky or Son are sick and in bed , I'll ask them "do you want me to bring you a book to look at - to take your mind off things?", the answer is always "I want the Mouk book please" ( My kids are v polite when ill ) This is so they can study all the illustrations and gorgeous characters having little adventures of their own.
Also the book has been printed on glossy thick paper and includes a set of re-usable transfers to add to the pictures with little written clues as to which page they go.... so interactive and educational too! You must see this book just to pour over the wonderful detail, humour and characterization's that the v talented Marc Boutavant has created.
Marc Boutavant also illustrated the cover of Play Pen a book showcasing new and innovative children's book illustration.
And this gorgeous book is on my list of things to purchase when I get paid, I love these three characters on the front of this note book, it reminds me of my Lil, sonny & Sky!! Marc Boutavant also has a new book coming out called For just one day , which I'll purchase and have my top reviewers review it for you!

As seems to be customary in the summer holidays, we waited for a brake in the down pour ( all 50 minutes of it), put on our wellies, and in a peppa pig stylie proceeded to find every muddy puddle we could find!
We just got in before the next down pour! Great British summer, you can't beat it! ( there's a touch of sarcasm in my voice here!)
The first day! of the six and a half weeks ( 45 days!) summer school holidays started yesterday, and so begins the work juggling whirlwind of fun trying to cram in as much as possible and enjoying every minute of no school routine. So our holidays began with a well deserved lie in!!
Then my brilliant friend Steph arrived with her magic scissors ( Steph is an amazing hairdresser and can perform miracles with the scissors!!) and gave all four of us a good hair cut! Lil shocked us with the announcement of wanting her hair cutting into a short bob.... " so it's trendy and fits into my swim cap!!" practical and stylish!
And wow, as quick as a good hair cut can knock years off an 'ole codger like me, so it can add years onto my gorgeous nine year old Lil, and she looks beautiful with her new hair cut but at the same time I want time to slow down, my little girl is blooming into a young woman before my eyes, and the walking around with bed head all day long without a care has gone!
Just incase you were wondering Lil's the one on the left, It's me with the bubble perm on the right!
No, it's Ivy Cliff, as she's fondly known, who stands guard in our kitchen. Chris bought her for me as a moving in pressie, 9 years ago, and she's part of the family! She's trimmed up at birthdays and Christmas! She was created by Jane Muir who creates the most amazing ceramics.
Also, as is the law, the start of the kids holidays always begins with rain and wind! all our gorgeous summer weather has disappeared, but ever the optimist hopefully the rain will subside to let us have some more of that lovely hot sunshine! The gardens loving the rain and our hydrangea bush is in full flower.
The metal house on our window sill is by Sarah Jane Brown and is called the house on the hill, a pressie from me to Chris as a thanx for Ivy!!

I've listed three pieces of fabric art in my little Etsy shop. The 'I heart New York' artwork was originally sonny's vest and trousers!
The background to Hello was originally Sky's jeans! I love giving the kids old clothes a new lease of life! I buy my felt from my friend Felt girl who has a supplies shop on Etsy. It's a great shop, I called in for some felt today and two cups of tea and a jam doughnut later I left with my little parcel of felt! that's what I call service! .... how does Bob Marley like his doughnuts?...'wi jam-in! - courtesy of Felt girls son.... poor love, he doesn't get out much!!

Vegetable Glue written by Susan Chandler and illustrated by the fantastic Elena Odriozola, is one of Sky's favourite books and one of mine to read together. I bought this book ( along with a few others) to encourage Sky to eat more vegetables...other than carrots! Sky's fantastic at eating friut but pants at eating her veggies.... and still is! but will eat 5 plums, a kiwi, clementine and a pear all in one sitting!
This book tells the tale in a lovely rhyming way of a little girl who doesn't make enough vegetable glue in her tummy to keep all of her bits stuck on!! ...
Skyla love's this page with all the noses, and we have to 'pick' a nose, Sky always picks the very long pointy one for me ( I can't think why?) and the cute mouse one for her!...
Granny comes to the rescue who has always eaten her Veg and is looking good for a hundred and four! The illustrations are sooo beautiful, I've admired Elena Odriozola's work for a while and try to buy her books when I go to Spain.
This is our favourite bit, when she trumps and her bottom falls off! magic! You can't beat a trump in a story, a classic in our family library!

At last! project No 56 on my really very massive (or Maffis as my Sonny say's - so we all say now say it now!) list of Things I want to do!! (let's just forget about the list of The things I have to do , Things I need to do, and Things that very much must urgently be done,.....I'm the queen of lists, I have lists of my lists... eee thank goodness the kids brake up from school this Friday Yay!! )
So yeah, my shop is officially Open, V exciting. I wanted to set an Etsy shop up about a year ago! but never seemed to get round to it... too many things to do on the To Do lists! but, better late than never!
feel free to have a look around and let me know what you think. I've just listed some screen prints and will be listing some fabric art this week too.
Right, - now to tackle project no 57 - Organise busy, windswept and interesting 6 weeks summer holiday for 3 children! :):):)

This morning started with a quick game of teachers, it was very involved as Miss Lily was a new teacher who Miss Skyla was introducing to her class (Skyla loves role play and is so brilliant at it!), then the students went into their various reading groups, I was reading with Green group whilst dryng my hair, making the bed, finding shoes etc...
I think the student on the left should be off School he looks a bit green!
We all had a great weekend, just went tooooo fast as usual! we spent time with family and went to see some of my work at the ARTweek exhibition. I had sold all my work which was sooo lovely, it gives me such a buzz that someone's enjoyed looking at a picture I made, enough to buy it and keep looking at it!
Thank you very much!x
We also squeezed in a visit to the farm. Lil, Sonny & Sky love feeding all the animals,
