Fab Friday!

wooooooo! what a week!
I've worked like crazy to have next week off with kids!
Just burning the midnight oil a bit to finish some painting then I'm done!... then the real work starts ... looking after Lil Sonny Sky!!! probably the hardest and most rewarding job in the world!

So, today as well as working my buns off,  I've listed some packs of postcards in my Etsy and my Folksy,
shops, they are prints of two of my fave fabric collages, Lily Bee and Betulah Butterfly! ( I thought 'Betulah' a rather grand name, after all butterfly's are rather grand... especially when they wear high heeled ankle boots!)

Also bob over to The Handmade Amoeba where the lovely Emma is having a fab giveaway of a bunny bottom hand made pencil roll... ooooo trying saying that after a hard days graft and a glass of rose!

And finally, a bit of chill music after a manic week, although I hope it's not raining where you are, the forecast is sunshine for this weekend, so hope you have a fab sunny one too!

where do you like to read?

... on my fire engine!
Sonny engrossed in a book before bed time!
Sonny doesn't believe it's bedtime when we tell him because it's still light, we have to tell him it's summer bedtime! Oh to be four again!  I think this image would make a great screen print!

Yesterday I did a little sketch of me and Son which I plan to do a screen print of,
Off screen printing today to finish a larger version of this, then I want to do another fabric collage of it then I think I've exhausted playing with it, but you know when you really enjoy using the same image?
Have a great creative day whatever your doing!

Summers here!

This weekend has been a scorcher!

So I thought I'd do another screen print for the seasons series, well it would be rude not to with all this gorgeous sunshine about!
So here's Summer, This was the start here,
and then this is the first colour, a lovely hot orange, on the drying rack.

And here's the red and the dark purple drying.
She has a lovely summery back and bubbly hair doo inspired by this book, from the ever essential reference stop,  The Dover bookshop, can be bought from Amazon too, I've bobbed it in ' fab books' in the side bar.

Hope everyone here in the UK are having fun in the sun and stocking up on those Calypso's and Fab lollies!.... and if it's not sunny where you are have a fab lolly anyway! what the hay!

My creative space...

'The Charmer' ( She could charm the birds out of the trees) so far,
It's slow progress,  I've lost passion for this piece, I put it down to interuptions and a busy family life that doesn't allow long stretches of time on it which is what it needs. So she's charming to one side for the moment!

In the mean time I've been working on a larger screen print of this design for ARTweek,

and inspired by this wonderful book, ' Chinese Indigo Batik Designs' by Lu Pu, published by Dover, I came up with my new screen print for my season's series....Summer!

beautiful soup

I'd like to say, here's one I made earlier... but this is actually the picture from the recipe book as my photo did not look at all beautiful..... but tasted bloomin lovely!!

The soup in question is
Aromatic Sweet Potato with Ginger and Lime
from this book, Women's Institute Soups for all seasons, ( which I've renewed from the library twice and can only have one more renewal before I think I'm just going to have to go and buy it!)
I'm no cook, but as I said before, I can just about handle boiling and blending, and I do love a good soup!

I can let you have the recipe if you're interested,
in the meantime here is another Beautiful soup, one of my favourite Tumblers!

catch up...

Hola mes amies,
I've been listing  a few bits in my Etsy shop and Folksy shop in between food shopping, playing on the zip wire at the park and now cooking soup.....was supposed to go to the gym but Mondays, family's and the gym don't seem to mix!

So instead, while the sun is shining I've poured myself a large G&T ( well it would be rude not to, there was a drop left over from Christmas and it was calling my name) and 'scoffed a few pic-nic eggs to tide me over while the soup cooks. Will report tomorrow on said soup...I'm no cook really, more of a re-heat person but I do like a good soup and even I can master the skills of boiling and whizzing in a blender...my kind of cooking....
Nigella be worried!

playing with matches

Sky and I sat in front of a log fire the other evening (...oooo is it really May?!) and drew the matches that lit the fire.
I drew the top one , Sky did the bottom one.
I love drawing with the kids, I'm always bowled over by their confidence, bold lines and the enjoyment of the process rather than the finished product...I need to take a lesson from them!!

My creative space...

Still experimenting painting on wood, I've been painting on these wooden mushrooms bought locally.
I've been using acrylic but I'm not sure this is right as even with varnish on the paint still chips easily, so tomorrow I'm going to buy some enamel paints and tonight I'm going to try acrylic ink to see if it stains the wood better.

The kids joined in too! I bought a bag of blank garden fairies  for them to paint on and they were turned into...

Lil's Monkey ( I've had to balance them in a small cup as they only have a peg for a bottom to stick into the ground!)

Sky's Geisha girl

and Sonny's man! I helped with the face, Sonny did the rest!

still experimenting

Robin on wood breakfast board from Aldi!

I'm still experimenting painting on wood.
I love trying new ways of creating an image, variety is the spice of life and all that!
I think it's important to push yourself, constantly learn and experiment! feel the fear and do it anyway! ( which is a fantastic book by the way!)
Hope you're trying something new today!

art class!

Sometimes when the kids are watching tv  I'll just sit with my sketch pad doodling.
On Saturday the girls were watching 'Britain's got talent' and I was sat doodling. When I looked over at sonny he'd grabbed one of my sketch books and was carefully drawing this bird which he was copying from a  Rob Ryan tile we have on the wall in the front room.

I was soooo proud!
He's only 4 and a half and this was a proper picture! not just a blob with with arms coming out and eyes and a smiley mouth a proper little picture. Sonny then announced he was going to be an artist when he was a daddy!!
The girls saw Sonny's bird and were amazed too!
not to be outdone...
Lil's birdy

Sky's birdies

Sonny's other birdy!

How proud! I know this is boring to everyone else but it's in the Mum's handbook to be ridiculously proud of every little thing your kids do ( apart from fitting a whole jaffa cake in your mouth in one go...I tend to ignore those kind of achievements!)
